Given the prolific use of US military force around the globe, it should come as no surprise that our leisure time is filled with representations of war. From The Last Jedi to Black Panther, from Homeland to Seal Team, from Call of Duty to Fortnite, our theaters, television screens, and gaming consoles offer endless opportunities to engage the Forever War. Rather than denounce popular culture as a cause or symptom of our culture’s propensity for military conflict, however, this talk positions popular culture as an opportunity for dialogue.
